Uni Room-spo
For me, despite being one of the most daunting experiences, packing up for uni was also extremely exciting, purely because I was looking forward to having my own entirely private space. On top of this, I could decorate it exactly how I wanted to. I imagined a colourful tapestry, dainty but dazzling lights, and an abundance of photos. My books would be neatly stacked, my cupboard colour-coded and my desk uncluttered.
Sitting here writing this article, my room hasn’t turned out quite as dreamy as I’d imagined, but I do have a few tips that can help you add that extra flair to your space.
1. PHOTO WALL
As Cliché as it seems, a photo wall at uni is always a must. You’ll never feel lonely when surrounded by some snaps of family and friends. It’s also fun to keep adding to the collection and watching your wall fill up as you create more and more wonderful memories.
2. SUPER SOFT BLANKETS AND CUSHIONS
Make your bed extra inviting by investing in some velvety smooth blankets and cushions, creating an extra chic room and an extra comfy bed. Primark and Wilko’s are likely to stock both of these items at prices that won’t require you to dish out too much.
3. GET FRUITY
I’ve found adding a fruit bowl to my room not only adds a spot of colour to my desk, but also encourages me to eat more fruit. Evidently, some fresh décor can make you feel better in more ways than one.
4. FAIRY LIGHTS
Again, fairy lights are very generic, but it’s always nice to have a bit of sparkle on tap, especially when you have friends over for a movie night or just want to sit back and chill with a good book. You could even go the extra mile and buy a fairy lights and photo combo; pegs are connected on to the fairy lights wire for an easy way to show off your photos. Various lengths are available on Amazon.
5. FLOWERS
I have never really appreciated flowers until my mum bought me some down when she visited. I popped them in an improvised vase made from a lemonade bottle, and they sit beautifully on my desk, putting a smile on my face every morning without fail.
6.INSPIRE YOURSELF
The sad truth is you’ll be spending a lot of time at your university desk, more often than not this will be reluctantly. Therefore, it’s a good idea to dot some inspirational quotes on or around it for when you feel you’re losing the will to live. You could print some photos of quotes off of simply write some out yourself on some sticky notes.
It’s brilliant how such easy additions to your uni room can make it such a pleasure to live in. It’s your home for a whole year, so experiment and see what makes you feel most comfortable. Good luck!
